Hot Rolled vs Cold Rolled Steel
The basic difference between hot rolled and cold rolled steel is the temperature at which they are processed. Hot rolled steel is heated to over 1,700 degrees Fahrenheit, while cold rolled steel is cooled to below freezing temperatures and then annealed, or brought back to its original temperate. As a result of this process, hot rolled steel is harder and stronger than cold rolled steel. It is also more ductile, making it easier to form and weld.
EN Standards for Stainless Steel Hot Rolled Plate
There are several EN standards for stainless steel hot rolled plate. The most common are EN 10088-2 and EN 10028-7.
EN 10088-2 covers plate made from austenitic, ferritic and martensitic steels, with a maximum width of 2000 mm and a thickness of 60 mm. It contains information on dimensions, tolerances, surface finish and heat treatment.
EN 10028-7 covers plate made from austenitic, ferritic and martensitic steels, with a maximum width of 2500 mm and a thickness of 70 mm. It contains information on dimensions, tolerances, surface finish and heat treatment.
Other EN standards for stainless steel hot rolled plate include EN 10151, EN 10259 and EN 10222-5.
